Team is a pretty positive jam. It seems to be just about growing up, being a normal teen from nowhere. She continues to critique shallow pop culture as she did in Royals. "I'm kind of over gettin' told to throw my hands up in the air." Yes, aren't we all. Here comes the feminist run-down.

• No name calling
• Empowering women
• Look upon your greatness and she'll send the call out
• Not objectifying, maybe even speaking out against it?
• Call all the ladies out, they're in their finery
  A hundred jewels on throats
  A hundred jewels between teeth
• Not about women in relation to man. She does mention boys, but  the song is not about her in relation to them, it's about just being supportive of each other in general."We're on each other's team" is the phrase repeated over and over.
• Now bring my boys in, their skin in craters like the moon
  The moon we love like a brother, while he glows through the room

Well done. If it were just a little more obviously woman-positive, it might get the plus.

• Anti name calling!
• "Man, that's gay" gets dropped on the daily // We've become so numb to what we're saying
• Not objectifying
• Not women in relation to men
• Women as dis-empowered, but is pointing out that power imbalance as wrong.
• And I can't change Even if I tried // Even if I wanted to // My love, my love, my love // She keeps me warm

A // Royals // Lorde

• Does not objectify women
• Positive naming
• Let me be your ruler, you can call me Queen Bee // And baby I'll rule (I'll rule I'll rule I'll rule...) // Let me live that fantasy
• Is not about relationship to a man, and does push back a bit on being pushed into caring about superficial love
• "We don't care, we aren't caught up in your love affair"
• Empowering women
• "We're bigger than we ever dreamed, and I'm in love with being queen"

Maybe you're thinking how is that different than "Applause" -- isn't she asking to be a ruler? But she isn't looking for validation. She's more offering herself as a different kind of model/ruler, one that is not caught up in luxury and money.

• Portrays women as powerful
• "I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire / ‘Cause I am a champion and you’re gonna hear me ROAR"
• Not about women only in relation to men (it could be about anyone)
• Not objectifying women

I would give this an A+ if it were particularly about women, but if a man sang this song, it wouldn't be.
